Dental Implants

Implant FAQs:

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are medical devices surgically implanted into the jaw to restore a person's ability to chew or their appearance. They provide support for artificial (fake) teeth, such as crowns, bridges, or dentures..

How long do dental implants last?

Dental implants can last many decades if they are of high quality, placed by skilled surgeons in suitable candidates, and looked after with good oral hygiene and regular professional maintenance.

Are dental implants painful?

The procedure itself is painless as it is carried out under local anesthetic. It is normal, however, to experience some post-operative pain, discomfort, and swelling after the surgical procedure. Patients are given instructions to manage this.

What are “All-on-4” implants?

“All-on-4” is a treatment approach involving an implant-retained bridge on four upper or lower dental implants. This allows a full set of teeth to be replaced in one go.

What are “same-day” implants?

Same-day implants are when a temporary crown, bridge, or denture is loaded immediately onto the implants after they are placed. This means you can leave the surgery with new teeth on the same day as the implant placement.

Dentures

Dentures FAQs:

What are Dentures

Dentures are removable oral appliances that replace missing teeth. There are many types of dentures, including full, partial and implant-supported dentures. With proper care and maintenance, the average lifespan of a denture is seven to 10 years.

What are digital dentures made of?

Digital Dentures are made from acrylic and Nano ceramic resin and are removable false teeth that sit over the gums and jawbones. The teeth are joined to the gum-colored framework to mimic a natural look.

How long do dentures last?

Dentures typically last between 5-10 years before needing replacement, but this depends on patient factors because the mouth constantly changes over time.

Will I be able to cope with dentures?

Coping with dentures depends significantly on each individual’s ability to adapt to something new. It is normal to experience some discomfort initially—a bit like wearing new shoes. This improves as you become accustomed to wearing them.

Can I eat and speak with dentures?

Yes, but it will take some time to adjust and learn how to eat and speak with dentures in place. Dentures do not function or feel precisely like natural teeth, but they will improve missing teeth.

Dental Crowns

Crowns and Veneers FAQs:

What are crowns?

Crowns are tooth-shaped porcelain caps that are placed over damaged, weak or heavily-filled teeth to restore their shape, strength, and appearance.

What are veneers?

Veneers are thin porcelain 1/3 crowns placed over the front surface of discolored, damaged, or misshapen teeth to improve their appearance.

How long do crowns last?

With good oral hygiene, regular check-ups, and professional maintenance, crowns can last up to 10 years or more. This varies based on individual patient factors.

How long do veneers last?

Veneers can also last up to 10 years or more, but this is again dependent on good oral hygiene, regular maintenance, and individual factors.

Do crowns and veneers damage my teeth?

To place crowns and veneers, the teeth must be prepared or “shaved down” slightly to ensure adequate space for them to sit comfortably within your bite. Modern techniques and materials allow us to ensure that this preparation can be kept as minimal as possible to preserve tooth tissue and reduce common risks. Individual risks need to be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
